Why do we attach so much importance to CE certification and FCC certification?

In Europe, this has been all rolled up into one set of standards, called the CE (European Conformity, in French its backwards) mark. So the CE mark is the equivalent of the UL safety testing, and FCC testing (per a EMC Directive which is part of the CE standards).

There are generally two types of testing that must be done on new electronic products, safety and emissions testing. Also, if you have a medical product, other criteria must be followed. The FCC (Federal Communications Commission) requires certain emissions tests for electronic devices. Due to the recent ruling, testing does not actually have to be performed; it is up to the manufacturer to certify that the device complies with the requirements.

As with the FCC marking in the United States, companies can self-certify compliance with applicable CE standards; however, to do so they must provide lengthy technical documentation to support certification, and in many cases it is best to have a third-party laboratory Test their equipment and write reports.

CE Marking Procedure

The manufacturer identifies the product in Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune or group of products in Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune for which he wants to apply for CE marking. The manufacturer in Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune then contacts a certification body. The certification body appoints an inspection body in Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune and one or more notified laboratories in Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune . This can either be separate bodies or it can be from the same organization as the certification body. If the manufacturer in Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune has a specific wish concerning which inspection body and/or testing laboratories he wants to involve, he will have to make an agreement with the certification body to appoint the other bodies in Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune.

CE Certificate of conformity

The assessment report from the initial inspection in Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune, test reports (and a classification report for reaction to fire) from the notified laboratories and test reports from the manufacturer in Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune (covering all declared characteristics from Table ZA.1 of the product standard) shall be sent to the certification body. The certification body in Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune shall confirm that tests were conducted according to the criteria given in the product standard, including evaluation of test results, that the samples tested come from the product in Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune for which a certificate of conformity in Maharashtra, Mumbai, Pune is applied for and that the FPC fulfils the criteria given in the product standard.
